MIAS Level 1+2 Leadership Training

Course cost: £185 (includes assessment, logbook +
certificate)
Prior mountain biking experience is essential. On the 2 day
course, you will be asked to demostrate the bike handling skills
outlined in the skills matrix document at the bottom of this
page.
Level 1 is for those wishing to lead rides on
non-technical terrain (forest tracks, canal towpaths etc).
Level 2 is aimed at those who wishing to lead
rides on technical (rocky / demanding terrain).

Basic / Emergency repairs

Assessment:
You will be asked to navigate and lead the group between two
pre-determined points.
On route, you will be expected to either teach a skill or coach an
activity appropriate for the group.
You will also be asked to demonstrate competence as a mountain bike
rider, and have a sound understanding of basic bike
mechanics.
You will need to be able to comfortably complete a demanding 30km
off road ride at a moderate pace.
The Level 1 & Level 2 courses are run
together. The candidates & Instructor will decide
during the training period which assessment the candidate will
undergo; Level 1 or Level 2. The course consists of training and
assessment in one weekend.

Examples of applications of the
qualification:
*Teachers using level 1 to bring
mountain biking into their curriculum, and level 2 to lead more
demanding rides e.g. during aspirations week.
*Military personnel leading groups in Adventure Trainng.
*Outward bound instructors looking to expand their
repertoire.
*Cycling club members looking for accreditation to lead group
rides.
Further requirements
In order to practice as
a mountain bike instructor you will also need a relelvant first aid
certificate (preferably an outdoor course).

CTC and from the ABCC.
Standard Learning Credit Scheme
The MIAS Level 1+2 qualification is accepted under the Standard
Learning Credit Scheme, SLC, for all regular MOD personnel. More
information is available from DIN 2008DIN07-103.
