Skills Courses
We are very pleased to announce that our skills courses will now be taking place in Plymouth's Newnham Park - once part of the World Cup circuit, and still one of the country's best race venues. Please note that Newnham Park is private ground, and so acess at any other time is not permitted. On a Fully Sussed skills day, you will be coached by a qualified MIAS instructor in a group of no more than 6. Our courses take place on South Dartmoor (Burrator), and from the edge of Plymouth. During the day we'll cover:- To get the most from this course you need to understand the basics like gears and be able to ride off-road at an intermediate level, (please see above course). Female only courses
Our female only courses cover the same techniques as our beginner and intermediate courses, but in an all female group, with a female instructor.

2010 Course Timetable
Course menu:
Beginners (£75 - full day)
The beginner course aims to boost your skills and confidence so that you can tackle low level mountain biking. During the day you will cover: 
* Basic bike preparation
* Riding position
* Climbing and descending techniques
* Singletrack riding techniques
* Clearing obstacles
* Cornering
* Use of gears and brakes
* Small drop offs
No off road experience is necessary, but you will require a basic level of fitness.
Intermediate (£75 - full day)
On the Intermediate course you will take your riding to the next level, allowing you to acess more demanding and technical off road trails. During the day you will cover:
* Steep descents
* Front + rear wheel lifts
* Fast cornering techniques
* Climbing techniques - difficult terrain
* Drop offs (up to 50cm)
* Bunny hops
* Single track riding techniques at speed
You will need to have had experience riding off road, and be comfortable with the skills described in the beginner's section.
Advanced
(£75 - full day)
This course is for the rider who has mastered the intermediate techniques & is now ready to push their ability, progressing toward becoming an accomplished, confident trial rider:
*Cornering: berms, off-camber, switch-backs, roots, loose surfaces.
*Trail Obstacles: steep drops, steps, jumps, hoping, manuals, rocks.
*Riding Fast: smoothness/control = beating your mates/opponents, suspension set-up, reading the track.
Our race taster weekends offer you a skills day with a highly qualified instructor, followed by free entry into the 'Soggy Bottom' mountain bike race.
On the skills day you will have the unique opportunity to practice on the race course in Plymouth's Newnham Park before testing out your new skills on the race circuit the following day. (Newnham Park is private land and is only open to the public on event days).
On race day your instructor will guide you through a complete lap of the course offering race advice and tips along the way. Your entry will be paid for you and your instructor will be on hand to cheer you on during the race.
